Generation V Innovations Work Well

Pokemon: Black version and Pokemon: White version are the newest addition to the Pokemon series bringing the startlingly long standing monster trainer game to Generation V.

Generation V intruduces a new professor, a new cast of characters this time including two friends AND a rival, a new league of villians, Team Plasma, and a whole new group of pokemonfor players to capture and train.

After a quick play through the first three gyms, it can be said that Pokemon Black and White are going to live up to the previous game sand then some.

Game developers at GameFreak have given the game several cosmetic touch ups, so that sounds like a good place to start.

The entire world was made with polygons like structures instead of blocks and the developers can't help but stress that by making the camera shift to many dynamic angles instead of the typical top-down view.

While the world is beautiful, the characters and pokemon themselves stood sprites which causes some awkward moments like when the camera moves to a 45 degree angle and the character is still looking straight but walking crooked.

Senior Kailey Roberts says, "Its cool but they need to make new sprites if they're going to use different angles."

All of ther pokemon sprites this time around are fully animated.That means that as the player selects what action they would like to take in a battle, instead of standing static, the pokemon will "breathe" and sometimes even taunt each other.

Each pokemon also performs and reacts to attacks instead of just standing or having their sprite squished or stretched.

Another new gameplay feature that should be looked forward to are the addition of triple battles. After seeing the well earned success of the double battles, it has been confirmed that GameFreak decided to implement triple battles into the game.

The strategy and cunning in a double battle have been amped up even further. With new strategies already being displayed by the games AI controlled opponents, this leaves the player with many quick decisions to make.

Some of the already speculated strategies by gamers include making a powerhouse team and ganging up on one opponent to take them down one by one, having attackers and supporters, and even a team of all counter attackers.

Without revealing too much, Pokemon gen. V is already looking like a stellar buy. If these new features aren't enough to persuade gamers, then perhaps the competition factor will making gamers say "I want to be the very best!" with its 9 out of 10.
